Shipping & Receiving Large Fence Orders
LTL freight, terminal pickup, forklift unloading and customer receiving responsibilities.
How large orders ship
Fence packages may be palletized or crated and shipped by less-than-truckload freight. Large crates and pallets normally require a forklift, tractor with forks or suitable receiving equipment. Parcel-style doorstep delivery should not be assumed.
Three receiving options
The shipping method and receiving plan are confirmed before dispatch.
- Pick up at the carrier’s local terminal, where the terminal loads a suitable truck or trailer.
- Deliver to a nearby business or depot with forklift unloading capability.
- Deliver to the jobsite where the customer has arranged suitable unloading equipment and an authorized receiver.
Responsibilities
Derkson prepares and protects the order for transit and obtains freight options. The carrier transports the shipment under its terms. The customer provides safe access, unloading equipment, a suitable vehicle where terminal pickup is selected, and someone authorized to inspect and sign for delivery. Drivers do not normally unpack or move freight beyond the delivery point.
Inspect before signing
Inspect the shipment, note visible damage or shortages on the carrier’s delivery receipt, photograph the packaging and product, and contact Derkson promptly. Signing without notation may affect a freight claim.
